The research work “Loss of Meaning in Translation: A Study on ‘..............” is an attempt to find out Loss of meaning in translation. Furthermore, it aimed to explore techniques exploited to translate social and cultural terms from English to Nepali and vice a versa. Secondary source of data was used in the study. Descriptive and analytical design along with qualitative date were used. To carry out this research, 78 social and cultural terms and phrases were selected by using non-random judgmental sampling procedure from the novel ‘........’. The translator translated the term ‘week’, ‘gallons’, ‘Cruel’ and ‘blacksmithing’ into Nepali language as ‘Nifer’, ‘pathi’, Nisthuri/suruwa’ and ‘kami kam’ respectively that are example of Lossing meaning in translation 7 different techniques were found in translation to Loss meaning in rendering novel Animals Farm into Nepali. They are literal translation, borrowing, definition, addition, deletion, claque and substitution.
The whole thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research question, significance of the study, delimitations of the study, operational definition of the key terms. Second chapter consists of review of theoretical literature, review for the study, conceptual framework. Chapter three includes methods of the study, population, sample and sampling procedures, study area/ field, data collection tools and techniques, date collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Analysis and interpretation of results have been disused in chapter four. Ultimately, Finding, Conclusions and recommendations have been discussed in chapter five.
